One record matters more than any ranking when reading a university page: the Home Office register of student sponsors, which is what permits an institution to issue the CAS a student visa requires. Northumbria University appears on it, and on the register that carries degree-awarding powers; this page sets out the institution’s subjects, entry requirements, fee arrangements and application steps.

01

What kind of university is Northumbria?

Northumbria University traces back to Newcastle's polytechnic tradition and took university status in 1992. It works across two campuses in the city centre joined by a footbridge, and alongside them runs postgraduate programmes at a separate site in London.

The institution's law school runs a legal clinic in which students work on real case files, an arrangement found at a limited number of institutions in England. The London site opens postgraduate programmes largely in business and computer science.

Degree-awarding powers sit on the Office for Students register; the authority to issue the CAS a student visa requires sits on the Home Office register of licensed sponsors. The two registers are kept separately and both are recorded in the institution's own name.

02

Which subjects stand out at Northumbria?

Design is the best known field here; the industrial design and fashion programmes have been recognised over a long period. Alongside them law, architecture, business, computer science and nursing carry long course lists at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

  • Design and Arts: industrial design, fashion, interior architecture, fine art.
  • Law and Business: law, accounting, finance, marketing, tourism management.
  • Engineering and Environment: architecture, construction, mechanical, electrical engineering.
  • Health and Life Sciences: nursing, physiotherapy, psychology, biomedical sciences.

The industrial design programme is among the fields the institution has sustained over a long period and is associated with its graduates. The law school gathers the programmes leading to professional qualification under one roof.

What are the entry requirements at Northumbria?

The institution publishes no single Turkey-wide grade threshold; the qualifications accepted and the mark required are stated in the entry requirements section of each course page. A Turkish high school diploma is not sufficient on its own.

The institution publishes no single Turkey-wide threshold, so the comparison is made on the course page itself.

For an applicant holding a Turkish high school diploma the route is an accepted qualification such as A-level or the IB, or one of the foundation programmes. The English level a course asks for is published on the same page.

04

What are tuition fees at Northumbria?

The international fee varies by course and each course publishes the figure on its own page. The institution runs scholarships at undergraduate and postgraduate level; conditions and deadlines are listed on its funding pages by year of entry and by course.

Alongside tuition, living cost is the second large item. The maintenance funds a student visa asks you to show are set by region and come to £1,171 a month here; in London the same line is £1,529.

Postgraduate scholarships also run at department level and their deadlines close before the course's own. The UK scholarships page sets out the arrangement in general terms.

05

What is the campus and student life like in Newcastle?

The two campuses are joined by a footbridge in central Newcastle and everything in the city centre is within walking distance. The library, sports centre and students' building sit in the same area; the railway station and metro are also reached on foot.

Newcastle upon Tyne is a river city in the north-east of England and its cost of living sits markedly below London. The city is crossed on the metro network and the airport connects to the centre on the same line.

Accommodation is mostly in university halls in the first year; later on students move into rented housing around Jesmond and Heaton. London is three hours away by train.

06
