UK visas, settlement and citizenship

UK visas and immigration

Entry, work, settlement and citizenship applications in the UK follow rules published by the Home Office. This page sets those rules out with the fee, the published timing and the source for each of them.

Someone comparing UK routes is usually comparing four different things at once — the condition, the cost, the timing and what each route leads to. Those are set out below and then in detail on the route pages, starting with UK work visa routes.

01

Which UK visa types exist?

UK visa types divide by the purpose of the application: work, study, visit, family and talent routes. Under Appendix Visitor of the published immigration rules, Turkish nationals require a visa to visit the United Kingdom.

StudyStudent, Child StudentA confirmed place at a licensed institution
FamilyPartner, parent, childA relative with a qualifying status
VisitStandard VisitorThe visitor rules in Appendix Visitor
Each route carries its own published conditions, fee and decision time.

02

What conditions are published for the Skilled Worker visa?

The Skilled Worker route begins with a Certificate of Sponsorship from a Home Office-approved employer. The published salary rule takes the higher of two thresholds: £41,700 a year and the going rate for the occupation.

The route is the largest of the sponsored work routes and the one most comparisons start from. Its conditions are set out in full at the UK Skilled Worker visa.

03

What do UK visa applications cost?

On the Home Office fee table dated 8 April 2026, a Skilled Worker visa from outside the UK costs £819 for up to three years, settlement costs £3,226 per person, and naturalisation costs £1,839.

04

How is settlement obtained in the UK?

Indefinite leave to remain is the published status for people who have lived and worked in the UK for five years on a work route. The fee is £3,226 per person and the published decision time is six months.

Settlement removes the time limit rather than changing nationality, and it is the step citizenship follows. The conditions, the 28-day application window and the absence limits are set out at indefinite leave to remain.

05

What conditions apply to British citizenship?

Naturalisation costs £1,839 in total: a £1,709 application fee and a £130 ceremony fee. The published conditions are five years' residence, settled status through the final 12 months, the Life in the UK test and good character.

The 12-month wait runs from the grant of settlement, so the two applications sit at least a year apart. The absence limits, which are stricter than at settlement, are set out at British citizenship.

06

What does British Global do in the visa process?

British Global informs and refers: it sets out the routes matching your question, the published condition, official fee and timing for each, with the source, in one report. Regulated advice comes from a registered adviser.

  • A written report lists the routes that correspond to your situation.
  • Each route carries its published condition, official fee and decision time.
  • Every figure is given with the source it was read from.
  • The file is referred to an adviser registered with the Immigration Advice Authority.
