UK Global Talent visa
The Global Talent visa is granted to people aged 18 and over who hold an endorsement from an approved body in academia and research, arts and culture, or digital technology. The route requires neither a job offer nor a sponsor.

- The endorsement application is submitted to the Home Office.
- The Home Office forwards it to the approved body for the field.
- The body assesses the file against its published criteria.
- Once endorsed, the visa application itself is submitted.
- Holders of a listed prize apply for the visa directly.
Sponsored work routes attach a person to one licensed employer, and the visa ends when that relationship does; the Global Talent route is built the other way round, on an endorsement the applicant holds independently. For the sponsored route, see the UK Skilled Worker visa.
01
What is the Global Talent visa?
The Global Talent visa is a work route for people an approved body has endorsed as a leader or an emerging leader in their field. GOV.UK states that the route needs no job offer and no sponsor.
The endorsement sits with the applicant rather than with an employer. That is the structural difference from a sponsored route: changing employer, working for several organisations or working independently does not affect the visa.
02
Which fields does the Global Talent visa cover?
Three fields are published for the Global Talent route: academia and research, arts and culture, and digital technology. Academia covers science, medicine, engineering, humanities and social science; arts covers architecture, fashion, film, and the performing and visual arts.
| Field | What it covers | Who endorses |
|---|---|---|
| Academia and research | Science, medicine, engineering, humanities, social science | The approved body for research |
| Arts and culture | Architecture, fashion, film, performing and visual arts | The approved body for the arts |
| Digital technology | Product, engineering and technical roles in technology | The approved body for technology |
03
Which body grants Global Talent endorsement?
The endorsement application goes to the Home Office, which forwards the file to the approved body for the applicant's field, and that body carries out the assessment. Digital technology applications are assessed by the body named for that field.
The Home Office receives the endorsement application but does not assess the merits of it. Whether a body endorses an applicant is that body's decision against its own published criteria, and the visa application follows only once the endorsement is granted.

04
What are the steps in a Global Talent application?
The application runs in two stages, endorsement first and then the visa, and holders of a listed prize skip the first stage. The published decision time is three weeks from outside the UK and eight weeks from inside it.
05
What does the Global Talent visa cost?
The total visa fee is £766, and applicants going through endorsement pay it in two parts: £561 at the endorsement stage and £205 at the visa stage. Prize-route applicants pay the whole amount at once.
| Stage | Amount | Who pays it |
|---|---|---|
| Endorsement application | £561 | Applicants going through endorsement |
| Visa application | £205 | Applicants going through endorsement |
| Single payment | £766 | Applicants on the prize route |
06
When does the Global Talent visa lead to settlement?
The settlement threshold depends on the basis of the endorsement: the published period is three years for those endorsed as leaders and five years for those endorsed as emerging leaders. A regulated adviser assesses each case.
The distinction is made at endorsement rather than at the visa stage, so the basis recorded then carries through to settlement. Which basis an application is endorsed on is the endorsing body's assessment against its published criteria.
