The undergraduate route is the one part of UK study that runs through a single central system, which makes its deadlines national rather than institutional. The wider picture is at UK education guidance.

01

How long is an undergraduate degree in the UK?

A full-time bachelor's degree takes three years in England and four years in Scotland, and both are completed at RQF level 6. Where direct entry is not accepted, a foundation year is added before the degree begins.

A placement or study-abroad year adds a further year at some institutions, which is why a four-year programme in England is not the same thing as a Scottish degree.

02

How is a UCAS application made?

UCAS is the central body for undergraduate applications: a candidate makes up to five programme choices in a single application, and that limit does not change afterwards. The application goes to all five institutions at once.

Because one personal statement is sent to every choice, the five choices are normally kept within a related field. Replacing a choice after submission is possible only in limited circumstances.

03

What are the undergraduate application deadlines?

On the UCAS calendar for 2027 entry, applications opened on 12 May 2026 and completed applications are sent from 1 September 2026. The equal consideration deadline falls on 13 January 2027 for most undergraduate programmes.

Applications after the equal consideration deadline are considered where places remain.

04

What entry requirements apply to undergraduate study?

Each university publishes its undergraduate entry requirement on the programme page, and no single central equivalence rule exists. On the Student visa side the measure is the published English threshold rather than the academic requirement.

05

How much is undergraduate tuition in the UK?

On the cap published by GOV.UK, full-time undergraduate tuition is at most £9,790 for the 2026/27 academic year, and that cap applies within the England student finance system rather than to international students.

International fees are set by each university and published on the programme page, so a comparison is made programme by programme. The individual university pages here each carry that institution's own fee source.
