UK scholarships

Two central scholarship programmes are published for applicants from Türkiye: the UK government's Chevening scholarship and GREAT Scholarships, run in partnership with the British Council. Universities publish their own awards separately from both of these.

The two central programmes both apply at master's level; undergraduate funding is a matter for the institutions.

Funding a UK degree runs on a different calendar from applying for one, and the scholarship deadlines usually fall first. The application timetable itself is at UK education guidance.

01

Which scholarships are available for UK study?

Funding open from Türkiye comes from three sources: the UK government's Chevening programme, GREAT Scholarships run by the British Council, and the awards universities publish themselves. Each has its own eligibility rules and its own deadline.

02

Who is Chevening open to?

Chevening is the international scholarship programme funded by the UK government's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and Türkiye is among the eligible countries. Eligibility conditions are published in full on the programme's own pages rather than by any university.

The conditions cover work experience, an unconditional offer from a UK university and a commitment to return, and they are assessed by the programme rather than by any institution.

03

When are Chevening applications made?

Applications for the 2027-2028 round opened on 4 August 2026 at 11.00 UTC and close on 6 October 2026 at 11.00 UTC. Results follow from the middle of June 2027, well after most university offers.

04

What does a GREAT Scholarship cover?

GREAT Scholarships contribute £10,000 towards tuition on a one-year taught postgraduate programme, and the university pays the amount after enrolment rather than before it. The programme is run by the British Council with participating universities.

Because the award is paid after enrolment rather than before, the initial deposit and visa costs still fall on the applicant first. The published maintenance figure for a Student visa is unaffected by it.

05

How are university scholarships found?

No central list of university scholarships is published: each institution announces its own on its programme pages and its scholarship pages, with the amount and the closing date set there. Comparison is therefore made institution by institution.

The individual university pages on this site each link to that institution's own pages, which is where the current amounts and deadlines are published.
