One record matters more than any ranking when reading a university page: the Home Office register of student sponsors, which is what permits an institution to issue the CAS a student visa requires. University of Dundee appears on it, and on the register that carries degree-awarding powers; this page sets out the institution’s subjects, entry requirements, fee arrangements and application steps.

01

What kind of university is Dundee?

The University of Dundee traces back to a college founded in 1881 and separated from the University of St Andrews to become independent in 1967. Its main site adjoins the city centre and, being in Scotland, undergraduate degrees run over four years.

The institution ran for a long period as a college attached to the University of St Andrews and became a separate university in 1967. The medical school had been founded before that separation and is today the largest of its units.

Degree-awarding powers sit with the regulator of the nation the institution is in; the authority to issue the CAS a student visa requires sits on the Home Office register of licensed sponsors, which is a single UK-wide list.

02

Which subjects stand out at Dundee?

Medicine, dentistry and life sciences are the widest fields here and run with the city's hospital complex. Alongside them the Duncan of Jordanstone design school, law, architecture and computer science carry long course lists at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

  • Medicine and Dentistry: medicine, dentistry, nursing, biomedical sciences.
  • Life Sciences: molecular biology, biochemistry, drug discovery research.
  • Art and Design: Duncan of Jordanstone College — graphic design, animation, fine art.
  • Social Sciences and Engineering: law, architecture, computer science, civil engineering.

Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design is a separate art school within the institution and is known for its animation and game design programmes. The life sciences unit runs international partnerships in drug discovery research.

What are the entry requirements at Dundee?

The institution publishes no single Turkey-wide grade threshold; the qualifications accepted and the mark required are stated in the entry requirements section of each course page. A Turkish high school diploma is not sufficient on its own.

The institution publishes no single Turkey-wide threshold, so the comparison is made on the course page itself.

For an applicant holding a Turkish high school diploma the route is an accepted qualification such as A-level or the IB, or one of the foundation programmes. The English level a course asks for is published on the same page.

04

What are tuition fees at Dundee?

The international fee varies by course and each course publishes the figure on its own page. The institution runs scholarships at undergraduate and postgraduate level; conditions and deadlines are listed on its funding pages by year of entry and by course.

Alongside tuition, living cost is the second large item. The maintenance funds a student visa asks you to show are set by region and come to £1,171 a month here; in London the same line is £1,529.

Postgraduate scholarships also run at department level and their deadlines close before the course's own. The UK scholarships page sets out the arrangement in general terms.

The main site adjoins the city centre and the library, sports centre and students' union sit in the same area. The bank of the River Tay is within walking distance; Edinburgh is under an hour by train and the city is largely crossed on foot.

Dundee is Scotland's fourth largest city and its cost of living sits below Edinburgh and Glasgow. The V&A Dundee design museum in the city centre stands at the heart of the waterfront regeneration.

Accommodation is mostly in university halls in the first year; later on students move into rented housing around the West End. The connection to Edinburgh airport runs by train.
